Making the Hologram

Image
The Idea Initial idea: This idea came to me whilst watching the documentary "The Great Hack" and "Social Dilemma". Both these documentary used sensational visual effects to elevate their scenes and aim to impact the audience. This is why I wanted to include an unrealistic and futuristic effect, thus came the idea for a holographic screen. Software:For this effect I chose  Premiere Pro and iMovie to create this effect. The program iMovies was used just for the assembly of a small video to work as a plot device for the narrative of the story. Premiere Pro was the main tool for this project, so it would only be natural that I used it for my effect. I started by importing the video from iMovie into Premiere and drag and dropped it above my footage. Now we are ready for editing! The Looks It was important to make the hologram look realistic and like something from the future, so I went into the effects panel and searched for the RGB colour balance effect. This effect al...

Assembly in Premier Pro

Image
The Beginning Every project has a start, and after I conducted all of my research it was time to start assembling the video. I imported all the assets that were already edited and ready to enter into the timeline, and also placed the introduction clip from the previous blog post into the Premiere Pro file. The sound effect is a keyboard typing one. I added this to add a little realism into the intro and have a little sound so that it would look more professional. To make it realistic I edited the sound to match the text that was shown into the screen. This means that the word "THAS" which was using the scale up animation technique with letter preference was perfect for this effect. Afterwards I cut the part of the intro that was extra and kept it under 5 seconds so that it would not take time from the actual video. The idea I was going for was a hologram television coming out of a very slim look alike phone. In order to do that I needed to create a small video that I would t...

Organising my thoughts and beginning my video

Image
Folder In order to start the editing of the project I needed to establish a folder where I would store everything in relation to my video. This folder includes other folders that store everything from music to the downloaded footage The word document includes the link for all the images and videos that I will be using, in order to help reference everything later. INTRO I started a new composition in After Effects to create the intro of the video in general. The video will have two intros, one at the very first of the video and one after the opening scene using the alpha matte effect. This is why this one is only 5 seconds long. First of all I created a new project on after effects and selected an all black background in order to make the viewer focus on the bright colours of the text. Once I did that I added my texts and keyframes in order to animate every word individually.  The word "THAS" is animated by scaling it up. "Films" is being repositioned using keyframe...

Researching other artists

Image
Muse The way I was going to take in order to pass my message prove to be a challenge.  I researched the internet to find techniques I could use in order to make my video look more professional, and I found the parallax effect. The way I came up with the idea came from a specific channel in YouTube which belongs to an online news website called VOX. The YouTube channel focusses a lot of it's content into problems of todays society and frequently asked questions by the public. In these type of videos, the editors of the website use this effect to create images in photoshop with motion graphics. So the idea to mix some real time footage with the parallax effect was a perfect opportunity to showcase the skills I have leaned throughout this course in both software and hardware. Vox For my intro I will be using the Alpha Matte effect from my previous blog post. The Alpha Matte technique is fascinating and I had seen it before. In the early 2000s when George Lucas released all the S...

Exploring Biteable and deciding not to use it

Image
Biteable Biteable is a website that gives the opportunity to the visitor to create a small video showcasing his skills and qualifications. When entering the website I clicked on the templates page to see the options that the website was offering. Once I decided on a template I selected it and I was ready to edit it! Why I chose this template? This template was perfect for the video I was planning. It is symmetric and looks futuristic, and this is why it fits with the content of the video. I wanted to focus on my digital production skills (Adobe Programs) and this is why I chose this. After exploring the program I decided not to use it because it was limiting me to a video that I did not want to present So I created a new project in After Effects and then I tried to combine it with my other title sequence I created a black background were my text would be animated, using keyframes This is the final video.

After Effects and 3D Tracking

Image
3D Tracking The effect of 3D tracking is a good way to add text in a way that looks professional and adds a nice style to the video. This effect can be achieved in two ways. The first is by using Null objects and tracking points to establish the sense of space for the program to generate and track movement. I have tested this method in a previous blog post titled " Introduction to After Effects and Testing". In this blog post I explain how I be using a 3D tracking effect from the Effects panel to track the camera movement and how you add the text. This method will inform my work greatly because it is a great way to add exposition into a story by text and make it look stylish and good to the eye of the viewer. First of all I opened After Effects and clicked on File> New > New Project. I then added a 4K video from a drone. The man who helped me film this Sotiris Gregoriou was okay with the me using the videos. I imported the video in After Effects and drag and dropped it...

After Effects and Alpha Matte

Image
After Effects  After Effects is the program many professionals use to create amazing Visual Effects so that audiences around the world will see and enjoy in movies and television. Today I decided to use the program to test some intros for my project videos. ALPHA MATTE Alpha matte is a technique in AfterEffects  that many companies use to create more professional intros into their advertisement. To achieve this effect you will need a black background. After that add the text toy want and the video of your choice. I clicked "Toggle Switches\ Modes" and I selected " Alpha Matte" on the video. I did this with every 4K video I have imported into AfterEffects. As is shown, the "THAS" asset is pre composed so that it would not take space on the timeline. This is how is really looks: I had to narrow it down so that I could work on the other assets without having to find them on the timeline. After that I Pre composed the entire intro and renamed it "Intro...

Photoshop and Parallax Effects

Image
Introduction As I approach the end of my final Term in DMUIC I want to create a project that is an embodiment of the way I evolved as a student and a media producer and creator. I conducted a lot of software research that I will be showcasing in this post and the ones following. In this blog post I will be explaining the way I learned about this technique, as well as the way I achieved it and also testings and results. This effect was achieved using photoshop and rendering the file and exporting in mp4 format. The ideology behind this is simple. You create two layers and then use keyframes to manipulate the movement and scale of the layers as the layers progress. Once we opened photoshop we choose a picture. In my case I used a photograph I edited a long time ago on Adobe Lightroom and then imported it in Photoshop After that I used the pen tool to define the area I want to cut and create a new layer I click on the area I want to cut out and then right click, make selection and fi...
