Research on famous animators

Animation is a great form of media to express idea and gives the creator unlimited ways to express his ideas and work. There are certain artist that just took this opportunity to create their own stories and succeed.

Matt Groening

Matt Groening is a famous animator and writer that is behind great animated classic Tv series and movies. Famous cartoons that he created are The Simpsons, Futurama and the Netflix original Disenchantment.

This man did not like school and this is why he concentrated on his drawing skills. He started his career by drawing his comic strip named "Life in Hell". This is a perfect example on how someone who did not like school, succeeded in life and made money doing what he loved. The research I was doing in this man helped me think some ideas for the narrative of my story, where my character will have the persona of the Simpsons character, Bart.

Another great animator and visual effects specialist is Ed Jones. This man worked behind a lot of blockbuster films like Space Jam, Howard the duck and Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back.
I want to focus on the work he has done in the movies Space Jam and Howard the Duck. The technique that the animation was using is groundbreaking motion-tracking process in which a background environment is crested, put in place, and move as the camera does.Character Animator is using face motion tracking in order to create the movement of the eyes, mouth and eyebrows. This is why researching for this type of animation helped a lot with the acting part of the project.

This is the style I wanted to use and it is easier to make with the time given and the software that  I am  using.

As is shown by the image, the actors that are playing the animated characters wear green suits. After the filming of the scene, the editors will replace the green suits with the characters that will mimic the actors movement. This helped me with my project by showing me how this mechanic works and how the motion of my face is being recorded so that the characters face will follow it.

In my project, the movement of the characters resembles the characters from south park, an adult cartoon created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

This animation television series has being very successful and still airs from 1993 until 2021.
The character of the characters in limited, and they only make hand gestures and face expressions. It was important to understand how to control my character to feel natural on the camera, just like the animators are doing in the series. It is also important to mention that despite the characters looks and movements they are not created using motion tracking technology, but every frame is being drawn by a team of animators.

This picture shows that the characters in the show only move their mouths and hands. The software I am using for my character also limits me to face and had movement.

By researching for South park I got a better idea on how to eject more emotion into my character, despite the fact that he has limited movement. My character works with motion tracking technology, whereas the South Park characters come from frame by frame animation. This means that the animators draw every single frame and then add them together as a sequence.

Reflection: By researching for this animation I got to learn a lot about animation and also the fact that every animation and animator is different, but by using the knowledge I gained from this research, I will be able to create something different from that I intended to do.

  1. Okay your research needs to be more in depth and should have references at the end - you also have highlighting when you copied from another source use the T with a cross through it to clear formatting on blogger and then add much more here!
