Researching filmmakers and the way they work
George Lucas and STAR WARS
Great ideas do not come in minutes. The creation of Star Wars was something George Lucas was anticipating for many years. His first idea was to make a movie with a similar tone with the Flash Gordon Series which was a sci fi story airing to the small screen. At the time George Lucas was an indepentent filmmaker that has realised the movie "American Graffiti" which generated enough money for the filmmaker to create his company that were appropriately called "Lucasfilms".

At first George started drawing pictures of the main character and early designs for the characters and drafts for the film. This seems to be an important step a filmmaker has to make in order to establish a new universe with compelling characters and an interesting storyline.

George Lucas made a lot of drafts for the movie and after the movie started filming he even cut a lot of material from the original script. This way of working helped George to see the movie with a the scenes he filmed and include the best parts into the final product. This movie is a perfect example of good research and development before the start of the filming process. The concept arts helped Lucas define the design of the characters and that is how the iconic villain Darth Vader was brought to life. Everything from his character to the clothes he was wearing were iconic at the time and he was truly an original design of a villain.

Another important aspect of the Star Wars universe were the planets. Every single planet and location has it's own personality and our heroes behave differently in each and everyone of them.
Reflection: Doing research for this post made me realise how important is the development part of the project. To achieve a great result you need to create your project step by step. From brainstorming ideas to writing draft scripts to even draw some concept art to see how to design your characters, locations and events shown into your video or movie. As we can see George Lucas was researching for his project by looking at old episodes of Flash Gordon and after that he started writing on paper his ideas for his own project. After that he started drawing the designs that would ultimately lead him to the creation of one of the most recognisable characters in the history of pop culture and the creation of blockbuster movies.
