Software Choice

In order to achieve the best result for my major project I need to work with something that I am familiar. That is why I am choosing to work with iMovie, a video editing software created by Apple.

In iMovie I can import videos that I recorded from my gallery and then start editing them by cutting some of the footage, experimenting with light, filters, colour contrast etc. Also you can try to make the video footage a little more stable, if the video that you recorded has any shaky scenes that you want to fix. The film maker can also edit the speed of a particular clip or the whole projects by using the tool bar on top of the screen that the video in progress is been shown.

Also I can add some music to my video by importing it from iTunes and edit it by selecting particular sections of a song to go with the theme of my video. After that you can increase or decrease the volume of the music depending on how you the song to interact with your clip. Maybe you want the music to be just a background noice or maybe you want the music to be the centre of attention by overpowering the whole clip with it's high volume.

Furthermore, this software lets you choose your title and how the video is being presented from a variety of transitions that are available on the app.Adding to that, the maker of the video can add a background from the ones that are available with the software.

After that I created a project just to experiment a little with the software:

In the video I created a try some titles and edit the text inside. Also I edit a video to play in reverse, I change the colour with my footage. Also I added some transitions so the video would not be boring. From this experience I gained a little more experience working on video editing and with this particular software and how to familiarise myself with the tools available from iMovie

Furthermore I created a small trailer for my team on a video game that won a tournament just to test my editing skills

Videos used for the editing:

I also experimented a little bit using premiere pro which was an unfamiliar software to use. I played a little bit with audio effects and change of colour.

Reflection:
From doing this exercises I was able to explore both this editing software but also test my limits by making small videos to see what tools I can use to have a greater result on my final project. Furthermore, I learned how to add footage from other forms of media like Youtube or Facebook.

  1. This is a good start, but it would be best to discuss some of the technical tools more in-depth. Your practice piece could be enhanced by adding several shots and experimenting with titles. You can use stock footage for this if needed.
