RESEARCH ON SEQUENTIAL PHOTOGRAPHY
SEQUENTIAL PHOTOGRAPHY
Research:
Initial ideas: Reading about Duane Michal’s work on sequential photography, in more depth, from websites that mention his work.
I was inspired by his work to make a series of six individual images telling a small story with a deeper meaning.
Main idea of project: How a simple glance could mean more than meets the eye to certain people depending on past experiences and relationships of the protagonists. I want the story to have a deeper meaning but with a comedic twist.
“But several people who saw the series when it first came out–including Linda Benedict-Jones, the survey’s curator–have told me that they didn’t immediately get the homosexual subtext, although they could tell there was something promisingly queer, in the older sense, about the work. That means that the series itself, as a work of art, played the same game of partial signs and obfuscations that its subjects are engaging in.”- Article about Duane Michal’s “Chance Meeting”
Through the storyline I want to portray the break of a bond between friends/ people who love each other and care about each other. I want to highlight how that bond is sometimes easy to break and what used to be familiar and feel close to home becomes alienated and distant.
Practise images:
I created a small story during the first week of the lessons and these were a very good practise for the final outcome of my sequential photography.
I drew a small sketch board as a draft to my photographic sequence to illustrate how I was going to take my pictures and what my story was going to be.
To take the pictures I used my phone and then to edit the pictures together I used the Samsung gallery photo editor to present my work in the form of a collage. To get the ideal setting for the picture we visited the river that is next to the University's campus at the evening. That is why the weather is cloudy and there is not much light shown in the image. The weather reflects to the photographic's subject's feelings and thoughts.
Reflection:
Whilst working on this project I learned a lot about photography from my research on famous photographers and artist. I understood there is a story and a meaning behind every photograph, that you can only see it by observing each image with an open mind and keep in mind the chronological period that the picture is describing and how society was reacting to certain things. I also got to experience how it is like to take photographs and edit them together in order to tell a story without words or movement, but only with still images and some actors.

Please have a look at the formatting of your blog post as it is not possible to enlarge the photograph and there is a large white background. You need to discuss the technical process more in-depth. How did you shoot these images, and what settings have you used? What software and tools have you used to put the images together. You need to add reflection on the final outcome. What have you learned from this project? What do you think went well and what could be improved?
ReplyDeleteGood job Thasos, just a few things i will like to be change.
